HomeMy WebLinkAboutCRA-R-16-0009City of Miami Legislation CRA Resolution: CRA-R-16-0009 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 16-00161 Final Action Date: 3/30/2016 A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE SOUTHEAST OVERTOWN/PARK WEST COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT ACCEPTING A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $50,000 FROM THE KNIGHT FOUNDATION TO UNDERWRITE COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE PRODUCTION OF THE 2016 OVERTOWN MUSIC AND ARTS SCHEDULED TO OCCUR ON JULY 23, 2016; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TO EXECUTE ALL DOCUMENTS NECESSARY FOR SAID PURPOSE. WHEREAS, the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Agency ("CRA") is a community redevelopment agency created pursuant to Chapter 163, Florida Statutes, and is responsible for carrying out community redevelopment activities and projects within its Redevelopment Area in accordance with the 2009 Southeast Overtown/Park West Redevelopment Plan ("Plan"); and WHEREAS, Section 2, Goal 5, at page 11, of the Plan lists the promotion of "local cultural events, institutions, and businesses," as a stated redevelopment goal; and WHEREAS, Section 2, Principle 14, at page 16, of the Plan provides for the "resto[ration of] a sense of community and unif[ication in] the area culturally," as a stated redevelopment principle; and WHEREAS, the Knight Foundation ("Foundation") was established in 1950 to provide grants to local educational, cultural, and social service institutions as well as to journalism -related causes; and WHEREAS, in 2008, the Foundation launched the "Knight Arts Challenge" grant program in Miami to support the best and most innovative ideas out of local organizations and individuals seeking to transform the community through the arts; and WHEREAS, the CRA submitted a grant application for the 2016 Overtown Music & Arts Festival to further develop the festivals offerings by incorporating more local artists and live art, recruiting higher profile musicians, and increase marketing efforts for the event; and WHEREAS, on November 30, 2015, the Foundation awarded the CRA $50,000 for the Festival as a result of the application; and WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners wishes to accept the grant from the Foundation; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE SOUTHEAST OVERTOWN/PARK WEST COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: City of Miami Page 1 of 2 File Id: 16-00161 (Version: 1) Printed On: 9/16/2022 File Number: 16-00161 Enactment Number: CRA-R-16-0009 Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The Board of Commissioners hereby accepts a grant, in the amount of $50,000, from the Knight Foundation to underwrite costs associated with the production of the 2016 Overtown Music & Arts Festival, scheduled to occur on July 23, 2016. Section 3. The Executive Director is authorized to execute all documents necessary for the purposes set forth above. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
