HomeMy WebLinkAboutCRA-R-16-0003 LegislationCity of Miami Legislation CRA Resolution City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 16-00016 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE SOUTHEAST OVERTOWN/PARK WEST COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY RATIFYING THE EXPENDITURE OF FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $69,638.55 FOR THE PAYMENT OF 2015 REAL ESTATE PROPERTY TAXES AT THE OVERTOWN SHOPPING CENTER LOCATED AT 1490 N.W. 3RD AVENUE, MIAMI, FL 33136; FUNDS TO BE ALLOCATED FROM SEOPW TAX INCREMENT FUND, ENTITLED "OTHER CURRENT CHARGES AND OBLIGATIONS," ACCOUNT CODE NO. 10050.920101.549000.00000.0000. WHEREAS, the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Agency ("CRA") is a community redevelopment agency created pursuant to Chapter 163, Florida Statutes, and is responsible for carrying out community redevelopment activities and projects within its Redevelopment Area in accordance with the 2009 Southeast Overtown/Park West Redevelopment Plan ("Plan"); and WHEREAS, Section 2, Goals 4 and 6, at page 11, of the Plan lists the "creati[on of] jobs within the community," and "improving the quality of life for residents" as a stated redevelopment goals; and WHEREAS, Section 2, Principle 4, at page 14, of the Plan provides that "employment opportunities be made available to existing residents..." as a stated redevelopment principle; and WHEREAS, Section 2, Principle 6, at page 15, of the Plan provides that in order to "address and improve the neighborhood economy and expand economic opportunities of present and future residents and businesses[,] ... [it is necessary to] support and enhance existing businesses and ... attract new businesses that provide needed services and economic opportunities ...;" and WHEREAS, the Pian at pages 62-63, identifies the N.W. 3rd Avenue Neighborhood Center as becoming a thriving mixed -use area, which requires the CRA to "attract new businesses to N.W. 3rd Avenue in anticipation of [surrounding residential development];" and WHEREAS, the CRA currently owns the Overtown Shopping Center and is leasing space to businesses for commercial use. This is not a tax exempt use of the Property; as such property taxes must be paid; and WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners wishes to ratify the expenditure of funds in the amount of $69,638.55 for the payment of the 2015 real estate property taxes at the Overtown Shopping Center located at 1490 N.W. 3rd Avenue, Miami, FL 33136; and WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners finds that authorizing this Resolution would further the above mentioned redevelopment goals and objectives; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE SOUTHEAST OVERTOWN/PARK WEST COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: City of Miami Page I of 2 File Id: 16-00016 (Version: I) Printed On: 1/I3/2016 File Number: 16-00016 Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The Board of Commissioners hereby ratifies the expenditure of funds in the amount of $69,638.55 for the payment of the 2015 real estate property taxes at the Overtown Shopping Center located at 1490 N.W. 3rd Avenue, Miami, FL 33136. Section 3. Funds are to be allocated from SEOPW Tax Increment Fund, "Other Current Charges and Obligations," Account Code No. 10050.920101.549000.00000.0000. Section 4.
