Executive Summary: The Groovin'Bean is a lounge and coffeehouse facility located on 1490 NW 3 Avenue in the Over Town Plaza. The Crroovin'Bean derives its name from the colloquial use to have a small party, not quite full scale. Generally the word Groovin' means to dance or listen to popular or jazz music, especially that with an insistent rhythm. Architecturally, this coffee house/lounge will serve as a beacon/locator for our facility as it sits in between the northern end of the Overtown neighborhood and the southern end of the downtown residential and business district. The restaurant features a Tapas xraexiu of moderately priced "comfort" food influenced by African, French, Israeli, Latin and other cooling traditions, but based upon time honored recipes from around the world, The cafe section of The Groovin' Bean features a coffeehouse with a dessert bar, magazines, and space for live performers. The Groovin' Bean will be owned and operated by The Groovin' Bean LLC, a Florida limited liability corporation managed by Keon N. Lewis and Monique Messer, residents of the AIlapattah area. The members of the LLC are Keon Lewis (50%) and Monique Messer (50%). This business plan offers financial institutions an opportunity to review our vision and strategic focus. The Groovira' Bean concept is built upon the success stories of Miami's many casual dining and coffeehouse venues. Located in the Overtown Plaza, The Groovin' Bean will provide accessible and affordable high quality food, coffee -based products, and entertainment to the thousands of residents and hotel visitors located within a five -mile radius. In time, The Groovin' Bean will establish itself as a "destination" of choice to the many residents of the greater Miami metropolitan area, as well as nuxnerous out-of-town visitors. The establishment will provide a "complete, high -quality" gourmet coffee experience for those searching for something that is rapidly becoming popular among Miami coffee lovers. Not only will patrons be able to savor fine roasted coffee beans but they will also be able to dine on "comfort" food based upon time honored recipes from around the world, they will do so in a facility containing ample space for a favorite pastime of Miami's residents: alfresco dining. Patrons will also have the option of enjoying coffee, tapas, desserts, and live entertainment in the evening time. The cafe's aim is simple. It will provide a completely sophisticated, sensual, yet casual dining and/or coffeehouse experience for the many Miamians' and visitors who frequent the city's casual dining spots and entertainment venues. It will bean affordable venture for patrons to come enjoy a great cup of coffee and breakfast sandwiches on their morning commute to work and a nice glass of wine and craft beer well into the evening, one that will encourage them to return on many occasions. The Groovin' Bean will also provide free Wi-Fi for its patrons and local residents to come and relax, read a good magazine, complete a homework assignment, or just browse the internet. This will be a well needed feature for the Overtown residents who oftentimes do not have internet access in their own. homes. The menu will feature tapas, salads, soups, sandwiches and other light meals that is of the type that is frequently out of the reach of the typical young professional...out of reach because time frequently prevents her/him from cooking hearty meals like those featured on our menu, Keeping with tradition of Overtown's traditionally Bahamian residents, The Groovin' Bean will also offer gourmet soul food that patrons will enjoy, Finally, and quite significantly, The Groovin' Bean will provide a much needed neighborhood -based coffee house house operation that is currently unavailable to the southern end of Miami's Overtown neighborhood. Not only is it projected that the business will generate new jobs, the partnership responsible for creating The Groovin' Bean will generate additional revenue specifically dedicated to assisting the Community Redevelopment Association (CRA) in its efforts to bring affordable housing, new jobs, and commercial activity to Overtown. The keys to success in this business are: 1. Product quality: Food, coffee -based beverages, and entertainment are our products. They must be of the high quality and value. 2. Service: Our patrons are paying to have a good time, Their experience will suffer if service is not of the highest caliber. Each member of the staff will be courteous, efficient, and attentive. 3. Marketing: We will need to target our audience early and often. While the business is located in a central and accessible location, many people will have to be re -introduced to the neighborhood surrounding the Overtown National Historic Site and on 14th St. 4. Management: We will need to have a firm grasp on food, beverage, and labor costs. The dining/entertainment/coffeehouse experience must be delivered in a fashion that will not only inspire repeat business, but encourage word-of-mouth recommendations to others.
