for the 2015 Summer Youth Training Institute.

BACKGROUND:
The attached Resolution of the Board of Commissioners of the Southeast OvertownfPark West Community
Redevelopment Agency ("CRA") authorizes a grant, in an amount not to exceed $305,000, to Urgent, Inc., for
the 2015 Summer Youth Training Institute.
Urgent, Inc. is a local non-profit committed to issues impacting children and youth, and seeks assistance in
administering a summer youth employment program that would help to combat youth unemployment throughout
the Redevelopment Area. The Board of Commissioners, by Resolution Nos. CRA-R-10-0038, CRA-R-11-0027,
and CRA-R-14-0038 have previously supported the establishment of summer employment programs for youth
by Urgent, Inc.
Urgent, Inc. seeks to extend the length of 2015 Summer Youth Training Institute ("Institute") and offer additional
programs for the youth. The Institute will operate for eight (8) weeks in June and July, and afford youth 16-24
with the opportunity to build and advance their skills in one of six (6) disciplines: (1) File Production; (2)
Broadcast Media; (3) Arts (Graphic Design & Creative Writing); (4) Cultural Tourism; (5) Coding & Web Design;
and (6) EntrepreneurshiplBusiness Management. The Institute will also provide job coaching, community
service, crisis intervention, and continuous learning & leadership development seminars. Lastly, eligible interns
will have the opportunity to earn high school and/or college credit by completing this summer program through
partnerships with Miami -Dade Public Schools and Miami -Dade College.
The youth participating in the Institute will be afforded the opportunity to interact with working professionals and
college interns facilitating the operations of the Institute. Such interaction coupled with the experience in the
area of interest may serve as a basis for the youth to continue their education and/or career development in
furtherance of their professional goals and aspirations.
JUSTIFICATION:
Section 2, Goals 4 and 6, at page 11, of the Southeast OvertownfPark West Community Redevelopment
Agency Plan ("Plan") lists the "creati[on of] jobs within the community" and "improving quality of life for residents"
as stated redevelopment goals.

$305,000 allocated from SEOPW Tax Increment Fund, entitled "Other Grants and Aids" Account No.
