Bockweg Executive Director BACKGROUND: Date: Dec. 2nd, 2014 Subjec Resolution Authorizing the Executive Director to issue an invitation to Bid for the Proposed Sale of Firehouse #2. Enclosure: Supporting Documentation; Legislation The Firehouse #2 building ("Firehouse"), which is on the National Historic Registry, has been home to the OMNI Redevelopment District Community Redevelopment Agency ("OMNI CRA"), for 2 years. In 2012, The Omni CRA completed the renovation of the Firehouse after it lay vacant for almost 20 years. The City of Miami deeded the Firehouse to the Omni CRA, as part of the Omni CRA's mission of revitalizing the Omni area and renovating historic properties. The Omni CRA seeks to solicit purchasers for the Firehouse through an Invitation to Bid ("ITB"). The terms of the ITB require that after the sale of the Firehouse, the OMNI CRA shall occupy the second floor of the Firehouse until the Sunset date — October 2030. The sale of the Firehouse will allow for additional monies to be reinvested and will further the goal of eliminating slum and blight in the Omni CRA area. JUSTIFICATION: Section 4, Goal D/ Principles A-2, and C-5, at page 42, of the 2009 OMNI CRA Redevelopment Plan, lists "[eliminate conditions which contribute to slum & blight], [enhance the area's visual attractiveness to businesses and residents], by creating opportunities for new development through improvements to the public realm.
