Mr. Clarence E. Woods III
Executive Director
Southeast Overtown / Park West CRA
1490 NW 3rd Avenue, Suite 105
Miami, Florida 33136
Dear Mr. Woods:
It was a pleasure meeting with you and Commissioner Michelle Spence -Jones last week regarding the CRA's desire to
establish a philanthropic vehicle to provide scholarships and funding opportunities for the Overtown community. The
Miami Foundation partners with individuals, families and corporations in our community that want to make a lasting impact
through philanthropy and we would welcome the opportunity to work with the CRA.
The Foundation provides exceptional customer service and manages your Fund so that the CRA can focus its efforts on
programming rather than the administrative burden of managing a Foundation. The Foundation provides the following:
■ All financial and administrative management, including acknowledgement of all donors with tax receipts
■ Oversight of grantmaking, such as verification of nonprofits charitable status and processing grant distributions
■ Program staff expertise to assist with nonprofit research
■ Menu of investment options, including the opportunity to select a third party manager should the Fund exceed
$500,000
■ Quarterly Fund statements
■ Access to online portal to view Fund activity, including Fund balance and grant history
■ Access to our online nonprofit database with detailed summaries of programs, leadership and financial
information
Based on our conversation, the Foundation can also assist and connect you with stakeholders in the community that are
currently doing the work you hope to achieve for the residents of Overtown. Since the Foundation was established in
1967, we have partnered with a number of organizations to support nonprofit leadership programs. For example, earlier
this year the Foundation worked with the University of Miami to help frame the first curriculum of the Leonard Turkel
Nonprofit Series. This series is a complete learning experience and networking opportunity for non-profit professionals to
help build the capacity of community -based organizations in the Greater Miami area.
Our primary objective is to provide you with the flexibility and customized support to adjust your philanthropic goals as you
define your objectives. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at 305.371.2711 or
jsoto@miamifoundation.org.
