Woods, III t 4J References: Executive Director Enclosures: Supporting Documentation; Resolution BACKGROUND: It is recommended that the Board of Commissioners of the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Agency ("CRA") approve and adopt the attached Resolution authorizing issuance of a grant, in an amount not to exceed $50,000, to Filrn Life, Inc. to underwrite costs associated with the 2013 American Black Film Festival Community Showcase to be held in June 2013. Film Life, Inc. founded the American Black Film Festival ("ABFF"), which has been showcasing world premieres of narrative, documentary and short films, and providing film -related educational resources in the form of workshops, panels, and seminars for many years. It is anticipated that the ABFF Community Showcase will be held in June 2013, and Film Life, Inc. seeks to partner with the CRA in promoting the Redevelopment Area as location for investment and economic opportunity. The promotion of the Redevelopment Area will highlight local businesses, cultural facilities, and restaurants within the Redevelopment Area will serve to generate economic activity in the area. The CRA has previously support the ABFF Community Showcase. The Board of Commissioners has previously supported the ABFF Community Showcase, as reflected by Resolution Nos. CRA-R-10-0023, passed and adopted on April 26, 2010, and CRA-R-12-0021, passed and adopted on March 29, 2012. JUSTIFICATION: Section 2, at page 11, of the 2009 Southeast Overtown/Park West Redevelopment Plan (the "Plan") lists the preservation of community heritage, and the promotion and marketing of the community as stated redevelopment goals. The Plan, at page 16, also provides that local cultural events, institutions and businesses should be promoted, and the area's sense of community should be restored and unified culturally. This Resolution furthers the aforementioned redevelopment goals and principles.
