With the fundamental belief that film serves as a beacon and is the most powerful and influential medium of our time, the MFLC will curate classes for adults and children, manage a state of the art editing facility, host a film screening series, as well as serve as an employment resource center for qualified film professionals seeking opportunities in Miami thereby creating a positive impact on the City's community and cultural life. MISSION: The Center's mission is to enhance awareness and accessibility of cinema and the filmmaking process to the residents of the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Area and the City of Miami. By providing resources, training programs, and networking opportunities to community residents, the Miami Film Life Center hopes to stimulate interest and support new and emerging filmmakers of color. COMMUNITY PROGRAMS: The MFLC's programming calendar will include the following activities and public offerings: ■ Independent Film Series -Monthly screenings of innovative and groundbreaking work of local, national and international filmmakers • The Art of Cinema Master Classes — Quarterly workshops covering a variety of disciplines intrinsic to the film industry including acting, screenwriting, directing, cinematography, and editing. Instructors will be selected from among Hollywood's most highly respected artists, film practitioners and academics • Youth Filmmaker Boot Camp — An extensive hands-on interdisciplinary summer program designed to teach the art and business of filmmaking to children ages 13-18. • Dinner and A Movie - A quarterly networking series featuring classic films and cuisine from a local restaurant. PROFESSIONAL RESOURCES: The Miami Film Life Center will feature The Production Hive, an online marketplace for the hiring of local professionals with expertise in film, video and digital media. The Production Hive will connect professionals with those seeking the services of those professionals. The Center will also boast a library featuring books, magazines, periodicals and guides to filmmaking. Membership will be required to borrow books and use the Center's resources but all other facilities are open to the public. OPERATIONS: The Center will be managed by Film Life CEO Jeff Friday and operate with a full-time Executive Director and Programming Assistant. The staff will produce a monthly E- newsletter, maintain the Center's website as well as work to promote the mission of the Center and carry out its programs. MARKETING and PUBLIC RELATIONS: The Center will engage a local public relations and marketing agency to conduct a comprehensive public awareness, community relations and marketing plan. The Agency will use traditional as well as social media to build awareness of the Center's activities. TIMING: The Miami Film Life Center will launch in November 2012. The planning period will run through the end of the year. The Center will kick off with its first program, a film screening in January 2013 followed by 10 months of programs and events.
