The Miami Film Life Center
Transforming Lives Through Cinema
OVERVIEW:
The Miami Film Life Center (MFLC) will be a South -Florida based arts institute providing
educational and professional resources related to the motion picture industry.
With the fundamental belief that film serves as a beacon and is the most powerful and
influential medium of our time, the MFLC will curate classes for adults and children,
manage a state of the art editing facility, host a film screening series, as well as serve as
an employment resource center for qualified film professionals seeking opportunities in
Miami thereby creating a positive impact on the City's community and cultural life.
MISSION:
The Center's mission is to enhance awareness and accessibility of cinema and the
filmmaking process to the residents of the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community
Redevelopment Area and the City of Miami. By providing resources, training programs,
and networking opportunities to community residents, the Miami Film Life Center hopes
to stimulate interest and support new and emerging filmmakers of color.
COMMUNITY PROGRAMS:
The MFLC's programming calendar will include the following activities and public
offerings:
■ Independent Film Series -Monthly screenings of innovative and groundbreaking
work of local, national and international filmmakers
• The Art of Cinema Master Classes — Quarterly workshops covering a variety of
disciplines intrinsic to the film industry including acting, screenwriting, directing,
cinematography, and editing. Instructors will be selected from among
Hollywood's most highly respected artists, film practitioners and academics
• Youth Filmmaker Boot Camp — An extensive hands-on interdisciplinary summer
program designed to teach the art and business of filmmaking to children ages
13-18.
• Dinner and A Movie - A quarterly networking series featuring classic films and
cuisine from a local restaurant.
PROFESSIONAL RESOURCES:
The Miami Film Life Center will feature The Production Hive, an online marketplace for
the hiring of local professionals with expertise in film, video and digital media. The
Production Hive will connect professionals with those seeking the services of those
professionals.
The Center will also boast a library featuring books, magazines, periodicals and guides to
filmmaking. Membership will be required to borrow books and use the Center's
resources but all other facilities are open to the public.
OPERATIONS:
The Center will be managed by Film Life CEO Jeff Friday and operate with a full-time
Executive Director and Programming Assistant. The staff will produce a monthly E-
newsletter, maintain the Center's website as well as work to promote the mission of the
Center and carry out its programs.
MARKETING and PUBLIC RELATIONS:
The Center will engage a local public relations and marketing agency to conduct a
comprehensive public awareness, community relations and marketing plan. The Agency
will use traditional as well as social media to build awareness of the Center's activities.
TIMING:
The Miami Film Life Center will launch in November 2012. The planning period will run
through the end of the year. The Center will kick off with its first program, a film
screening in January 2013 followed by 10 months of programs and events.
