BACKGROUND:
It is recommended that the Board of Commissioners of the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community
Redevelopment Agency ("CRA") approve and adopt the attached Resolution authorizing the execution of a
sponsorship agreement with Connor Sports in relation to the CRA's Film Institute Job Training Program.
The Miami Film Life Center and Film Institute Job Training Program is an initiative aimed to promote the
Southeast Overtown/Park West Redevelopment Area as a destination for film -related projects and activities.
The promotion of the area also serves to highlight local film industry professionals and talent, and provide
employment opportunities for local residents.
The Board of Commissioners of the CRA, by Resolution No. CRA-R-12-0068, passed and adopted on
September 24, 2012, authorized a grant, in an amount not to exceed $200,000, to the University of Miami to
conduct film -related job training in furtherance of the CRA's stated redevelopment goals. Additionally, on
October 25, 2012, the Board of Commissioners of the Omni Redevelopment District Community Redevelopment
Agency, by Resolution No. CRA-R-12-0070, authorized a grant, in an amount not to exceed $200,000, to the
University of Miami to conduct film -related job training.
The University of Miami partnered with Townsend Entertainment Corporation ("Townsend"), a private third party
film production company, to facilitate the film -related job training in connection with Townsend's local movie
production "Playin' for Love," which centers around the sport of basketball (the "Project"). This offered area
residents with an opportunity to engage in hands-on training and exposure to the film industry. In an effort to
leverage the aforementioned grant funding, the CRA sought to develop sponsorship opportunities in support of
the Project. As a result, Connor Sports has expressed an interest in being a Sponsor by committing funding,
and the repair or replacement of a basketball floor in a City of Miami park.
JUSTIFICATION:

Section 2, Goal 6, at page 11, of the Plan also lists "improving the quality of life for residents," as a stated
redevelopment goal.
FUNDING:
