Museum to the City

BACKGROUND:
It is recommended that the Board of Commissioners of the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community
Redevelopment Agency ("CRA") approve and adopt the attached Resolution authorizing the executive director
to transfer title, of real property, located at 480 Northwest 11th Street, Miami, Florida ("Black Police Precinct and
Courthouse Museum"), to the City of Miami ("City").
JUSTIFICATION:
Section 2, Goal 1, at page 11, of the 2009 Southeast Overtown/Park West Redevelopment Plan, in conformity
with Chapter 163, Florida Statutes, lists the "[preservation] of historic buildings and community heritage," as a
stated redevelopment goal.
Section 4, at pages 89 and 90, of the 2009 Southeast Overtown/Park West Redevelopment Plan identifies the
Black Police Precinct and Courthouse Museum, as a historical structure of "major importance" for purposes of
continued preservation.
The City will continue the preservation of the Black Police Precinct and Courthouse Museum as a historical
structure of major importance; and
The CRA, for the purpose of carrying out and planning its community redevelopment objectives, wishes to
transfer title of the Black Police Precinct and Courthouse Museum to the City; and
Pursuant to Chapter 163.400, Florida Statutes, Cooperation of public bodies, the CRA may transfer title of real
property, the Black Police Precinct and Courthouse Museum, to the City, without consideration, an appraisal,
public notice, advertisement, or public bidding; and
This Resolution carries out these objectives.
