Bockweg Executive Director Subject: Funding for the design, construction, and interior build -out of New Providence Lodge References: Enclosures: Legislation BACKGROUND: It is recommended that the Board of Commissioners of the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Agency ("CRA") approve and adopt the attached Resolution authorizing expenditure of funds, in an amount not to exceed $300,000.00, for the for repairs, ADA improvements and 40-year recertification of the historic structure, New Providence Lodge, a/k/a/ Masonic Lodge, located at 937-939 NW 3rd Avenue, Miami, Florida. JUSTIFICATION: New Providence Lodge is a designated historic site located within the Southeast Overtown/Park West CRA area, at 937-939 NW 3rd Avenue, and so listed on the Official Historic and Environmental Preservation Atlas of the City of Miami, Florida. This historic structure does not meet the requirements for handicap accessibility of a commercial facility, is at risk of demolition due to deferred maintenance, and is in need of immediate repairs to preserve this historical site and to bring the structure up to City of Miami City Code. The Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Agency ("CRA") is responsible for carrying out community redevelopment activities and projects within its Redevelopment Area in accordance with its approved Redevelopment Plan. At page 11, the Southeast Overtown/Park West Redevelopment Plan, lists "preserving historic buildings and community heritage" as a redevelopment goal. This Resolution carries out these objectives. FUNDING: Funds are to be allocated from SEOPW Tax Increment Fund, "Other Grants and Aids," Account Code No. 10050.920101.883000.0000.00000.
