BACKGROUND:
It is recommended that the Board of Commissioners of the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community
Redevelopment Agency ("CRA") approve and adopt the attached Resolution authorizing the acceptance of the
transfer of title from the City of Miami of the property located at 480 N.W. 11th Street, Miami, Florida: the Black
Police Precinct & Courthouse Museum.
The Black Police Precinct is a historic structure of major importance located in the West Overtown
neighborhood; a specifically identified project area in the 2009 Southeast Overtown/Park West Redevelopment
Plan. The transfer of title will allow the CRA to continue its redevelopment efforts within the West Overtown
project area.
JUSTIFICATION:
Section 2, Goal 1, at page 11, of the 2009 Southeast Overtown/Park West Redevelopment Plan lists the
"[preservation] of historic buildings and community heritage," as a stated redevelopment goal.
Section 4, at pages 89 and 90, of the 2009 Southeast Overtown/Park West Redevelopment Plan identifies the
Black Police Precinct as a historical structure of "major importance" for purposes of continued preservation.
This Resolution carries out these goals.
