BACKGROUND:
It is recommended that the Board of Commissioners of the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community
Redevelopment Agency ("CRA") approve and adopt the attached Resolution rescinding resolution no. CRA-R-
10-0039, redirecting funds, in an amount not to exceed $14,300, toward the CHILL the Violence initiative
organized by the Overtown Community Oversight Board ("OCOB").
The Board of Commissioners, by Resolution No. CRA-R-10-0039, passed and adopted on May 13, 2010,
authorized the issuance of a grant, in an amount not to exceed $14,300, to underwrite the costs associated with
the "Stop the Violence" initiative organized by the OCOB. The OCOB was unable to host the Stop the Violence
event last year due to logistical difficulties.
The OCOB now seeks to use the funds previously authorized for Stop the Violence for its renamed program,
"CHILL the Violence," to be held in March 2011. Similar to Stop the Violence, CHILL the Violence addresses
the issue of violence against youth through events that focus on crime awareness and prevention.
JUSTIFICATION:
Section 2, Principle 14, at page 17, of the 2009 Southeast Overtown/Park West Redevelopment Plan lists
"[restoring] a sense of community and [unifying] the area culturally," as a stated redevelopment goal.
This Resolution carries out this goal.
FUNDING: $14,300 from SEOPW Tax Increment Fund, "Other Grants and Aids," Account Code No.
