RE: 3+nonthExtension Request for Folk Life Fridays 1nOwertmm/n
Dear Chairman Dunn,
Onbehalf ofNew Washington Heights CDC vvethank you for your support ofFolk Life Fridays this past
year. At this time, we are requesting your support for a 2-month extension of Folk Life Fridays beginning
February 2011. Enclosed please find for your review and consideration a Scope of Work and Budget for
this request. We are also excited to share with you that we have obtained a matching grant for the
amount of$500Ofrom Miami -Dade Cultural Affairs for this project.
Folk Life Fridays is a monthly open-air market to be held on Overtom/n's 9th Street Pedestrian Mall. Folk
Life Fridays is an economic development initiative that provides opportunities for local businesses to
promote their goods and services to residents and visitors. With the development of Miami -Dade
County's Transit Building, housing approximately 2000 employees, the close proximity of Park Place and
Bay View Residences, ease ofaccess from Downtown and the Port of Miami, Folk Life Fridays provides a
positive destination in the near of Overtown for folks to "Shop, Dine and Explore," within the CRA
boundaries.
This monthly event will showcase approximately thirty (20-30) local vendors selling a variety of items,
such as arts and crafts, books, jewelry, clothing and food. As an added bonus we will have live music ora
Di to play popular music to create a festive atmosphere.
We would again like to thank you for your continued support in partnering with the Overtown
community in helping make it a better place for residents and businesses.
Sincerely,
cNeDeU
