Bert; ZZZ-Alyce Robertson (NET); Fraser, Jamil; Woods, Clarence Subject: RE: Planters on NW 7th and 8th Streets Cesar, After internal review, we have determined that the CRA staff is recommending to allocate $75,000 towards the installation of the planters with an expectation of receiving 75 planters. This project should be considered a pilot program and we are placing this item on the draft agenda for SEOPW board approval on the 29th of November. In the near future, we can perform a field locate for the planters to best determine their proposed placement and avoidance of driveways, etc. I would also like to work with you all on the plant selection for the planters. Bert; ZZZ-Alyce Robertson (NET) Subject: RE: Planters on NW 7th and 8th Streets Mark, sorry for the late response, I was out sick yesterday. As you can see in the attached drawings, our preliminary calculations indicate that the number of planters to cover the three blocks (NE 8th Street between NE 1st Ave. and NE 2nd Ave. & NE 7th Street between NE 1st Avenue and Biscayne Boulevard) at twenty foot centers as initially discussed requires closer to 100 total planters — a lot more than 40. If the idea is to save a few bucks. I don't suggest just spreading the planters out along the three blocks (at +/- fifty foot centers). I don't believe it will have the desired effect (and in fact will look like two perfect parking spaces in between planters). I suggest concentrating the planters to have the desired effect and prioritizing the blocks as follows: 1. NE 8th Street between NE 1st and 2nd Avenues (requires 36 planters at 20'-0" centers) a. This street has the most pedestrian traffic from the area parking lots and the 9th Street MetroMover Station 1 b. The street section of NE 8th Street between NE 2"d Avenue and Biscayne Boulevard already has wider sidewalks and the approach to this block from the West lends itself to the visual "narrowing" of the right-of-way. c. This block is the most in need of improvement. 2. NE 7th Street between NE 15t and 2"d Avenues (requires 40 planters at 20'-0" centers) a. This street has probably the 2"d most pedestrian traffic from the area parking lots. b. This block is also in need of improvement. 3. NE 7th Street between NE 2"6 Avenue and Biscayne Boulevard (24 planters at 20'-0" centers) a. This block has a high number of pedestrians from the Freedom Tower MetroMover Station. b. There is much less happening on this street (only one parking lot entrance) and if the parking is removed from the street, the sidewalks are clutter free (and if the no parking area is striped) there is plenty of room for pedestrians. To answer your original question. The approximate cost per planter (assuming purchasing 50 planters or more) is $1,000 per planter inclusive of: 54" wide by 34" tall planter, soil, small tree and ten shrubs plus installation by DET or t D. Let me know how you wish to proceed as we have completed the attached drawing suj2ptCilt Wb"q>ill need about three weeks for the planters to come in once ordered.
