KOPELOUSOS SECRETARY Mrr T ED INTO THE PUBLIC RECORD FOR ITEM I '-{ ON 1I- f3-io , (owiJ ( P) Please be advised that the Community Redevelopment Agency of the City of Miami and the Florida Department of Transportation have come to an agreement with respect to the above -referenced property currently owned by the School Board of Miami -Dade County. The Department has agreed to acquire a portion of the Miami Skill Center from the CRA for purposes of our transportation project at SR I-395, from East of 1-95 to MacArthur Causeway Bridge. This agreement is, of course, contingent on the closing of the transaction for the entire Miami Skill Center property by and between the School Board and the CRA. The Department fully supports the purchase/sale transaction between the CRA and the School Board for the Miami Skill Center property. Sipcerel Gus Pego, P. E. District Six Secretary Cc: Mr. Pieter Bockweg, Executive Director, CRA Mr. Alberto M. Carvalho, Superintendent, Miami Dade County Public Schools William R. Bloom, Esq. www.dotstate.fl.us November 10th, 2010 Dear Bert, am writing in support of the CRA's purchase of the Skills Center Building. After a tour of the building, I am convinced that it can be used in some capacity as a media facility to support any number of Film, TV, Sound and or Post Production opportunities. As I pointed out during my tour with you and Commissioner Sarnoff, changes will need to be made to convert it into a proper filming studio for certain types of films or TV shows. For example; to use the facility as a site to build. light and film large sets, the ceiling height might not be adequate. However, to shoot commercials or stills or smaller TV shows, the ceiling height may be just enough. I mentioned that the some of the supporting posts erected every few feet would have to be removed to build large sets. If the building cannot support the removal of these posts, or if the cost to do so becomes prohibitive, the facility's use can be geared towards other layers of our industry, such as post production, animation, etc. With all of the office space available, the facility could be rented out as production offices, set construction space or rehearsal halls. Parts of the building could be rented out to industry vendors and suppliers such as grip and lighting equipment, camera or props. It would be wonderful to have the perfect space that would have 40 foot ceilings, soundproofing and acres of parking in addition to offices. That building does not exist in this area yet...hopefully someday it will. However, with careful planning and funding the Skills Center space can be converted into a media facility that will attract any or all of the supporting industry opportunities I mention above. In conclusion, I think that the building could be converted into a useful facility to support many needs of the film and TV industry in South Florida. Sincerely, Terry Miller Producer _0LON..!..._IQ-to Ice Palace Studios November 15, 2010 I would like to give my support to the CRA for the purchase and renovation of the Skills Center to be used as a film studio and exhibition center. The Media and Entertainment District would greatly benefit from the addition of such a facility and working in conjunction with the Ice Palace Studios we can render a greatly needed service to the producers, hotels and business's that would benefit from this facility. Bockweg Community Redevelopment Agency 49 N.W. 5th Street, Suite 100 Miami, FL 33128 Re: OUR SUPPORT FOR THE MIAMI SKILLS CENTER (29 N.W. 13th Street) Dear Mr. Bockweg, I would like to express my wholehearted support for the CRA purchase of the Miami Skills Center building and for the establishment of permanent facilities for media, entertainment and events, as well as a sound stage for film and television production, in this building, which is located at 29 N.W. 13th Street — in the City of Miami's Arts & Entertainment District. The purchase and rehabilitation of this building, close to the Ice Palace Studios and the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, will help fuel a renaissance of hospitality venues, public entertainment, and television and film production, in this very special area. This CRA area desperately needs and deserves an economic engine for growth and for creative development in order to curtail slum and blight. I'm also hopeful that the purchase of the Skills Center will draw the CRA communities closer by creating jobs and a focal point for events pertaining to the arts and the entertainment industry.
