Villacorta f Executive ❑irector BACKGROUND: Subject: Resolution Authorizing Additional Funds to Miami -Dade College for its Hospitality Institute Job Training and Job Placement Program References: Enclosures: Supporting Documentation; Legislation It is recommended that the Board of Commissioners of the Southeast OvertownlPark West Community Redevelopment Agency ("CRA") approve and adopt the attached Resolution authorizing additional funding, in an amount not to exceed 865,000, for a total amount not to exceed 5165,000, to Miami -Dade College For its Hospitality Institute Job Training and Job Placement Program. Miami -Dade College's Hospitality Institute ("Program") offers job training and employment opportunities in the hospitality industry to residents of the Southeast Overtown/Park West Redevelopment Area. The Board of Commissioners, by Resolution CRA-R-10-0025, passed and adopted April 26, 2010, authorized a grant, in an amount not to exceed $100.000. to underwrite a portion of the costs associated with the Program. Previous funding from a three-year grant provided by the Wal-Mart Foundation has been exhausted, and Miami - Dade College now seeks additional funding opportunities to continue the Program. The Program has been successful: (i) experiencing a significant increase in the number of registrants over the past two years: and (ii) having over 600 participants completing the job training program in 2009, including more than 200 being employed by businesses within Miami -Dade County. Miami -Dade College now requests additional funding to employ experienced personnel for the efficient operation of the Program, and develop courses in industry certification by the American Hotel & Lodging Association in food & beverage for alumni of the Hospitality institute. JUSTIFICATION: Section 2, Principle 4, at page 14, of the 2009 Southeast Overtown/Park Community Redevelopment Plan states "that employment opportunities be made available to existing residents as a redevelopment goal. This Resolution carries out this goal. FUNDING: $65,000 from SEOPW Tax Increment Fund, "Other Grants and Aids," Account Code No. 10050.920101.883000.0000.00000.
