Villacorta Executive Director Date: June 18, 2010 File: 10-00786 Subject: Resolution Authorizing Additional Funds for Expanded Keep Miami Beautiful Summer Youth Environmental Employment Program. References: Enclosures: Supporting Documentation; Legislation BACKGROUND: It is recommended that the Board of Commissioners of the Omni Redevelopment District Community Redevelopment Agency ("CRA") approve and adopt the attached Resolution authorizing additional funding, in an amount not to exceed $120,000, for a total amount not to exceed $240,000, to Keep Miami Beautiful, Inc., for the expansion of its Summer Youth Environmental Employment Program ("Summer Program"). The Summer Program is designed to teach individual responsibility through programs that improve the environment in blighted neighborhoods by means of litter prevention, waste minimization, and recycling initiatives. On May 13, 2010, the Board of Commissioners, by Resolution No. CRA-R-10-0044, authorized the issuance of a grant, to Keep Miami Beautiful to start the Summer Program. The Summer Program has been well received by residents of the Redevelopment Area, with over 500 individuals applying for 80 positions, and Keep Miami Beautiful proposes to expand the Summer Program to accommodate an additional 80 individuals for placement with the City of Miami's Solid Waste and Parks & Recreation Departments. JUSTIFICATION: Section 4.4, D., at page 41, of the 2009 Omni Redevelopment Plan, lists "[p]rovid[ing] employment opportunities and upward mobility for residents," as a stated redevelopment objective. This resolution carries out this objective. FUNDING: $120,000 from Omni Tax Increment Fund, "Other Grants and Aids," Account Code No. 10040.920101.883000.0000.00000.
