Dunn II Date: and Members of the CRA Board From. /James H. Villacorta Executive Director liPt April 16, 2010 File: 10-00540 Subject: Resolution Authorizing a Grant to Miami -Dade College for its Hospitality Institute Job Training and Job Placement Program. References: Enclosures: Supporting Documentation; Legislation BACKGROUND: It is recommended that the Board of Commissioners of the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Agency ("CRA") approve and adopt the attached Resolution authorizing the issuance of a grant, in an amount not to exceed $100,000, to Miami -Dade College for its Hospitality Institute Job Training and Job Placement Program. The Board of Commissioners, by Resolution No. CRA-R-08-0046, passed and adopted on September 3, 2008, authorized a grant, in an amount not to exceed $100,000, to Miami -Dade College for its Hospitality Institute Job Training and Job Placement Program ("Hospitality Institute"). Miami -Dade College has submitted a proposal to the CRA requesting a grant to underwrite a portion of the costs associated with continuing the Hospitality Institute. The Hospitality Institute will continue to offer job training and employment opportunities in the hospitality industry to residents living in the Redevelopment Area. As a condition of the Grant, the CRA will expect Miami -Dade College to provide the following: • a minimum of 5 job readiness workshops; • prescreening and training for at least 350 participants; • job placement for 30% of participants; • one annual alumni event; • submission of quarterly reports detailing the number of participants that obtained and/or retained their jobs over the course of the monitoring period; • an increase in the number of community partners by four (4) for a new total of 8 participating community partners; and an increase in the number of employer partnerships by four (4) for a new total of 19 employers participating in the Hospitality Institute. JUSTIFICATION: Principle 4, at page 14, of the 2009 Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Plan lists making employment opportunities available to existing residents of Overtown as a stated redevelopment principle. This Resolution fulfills that principle. FUNDING: $100,000 from SEOPW Tax Increment Fund, "Other Grants and Aids," Account Code No. 10050.920101.883000.0000.00000.
