Villacorta Executive Director Date: April 16, 2010 File: 10-00543 Subject: Resolution Authorizing a Grant to Film Life, Inc., for the 2010 American Black Film Festival Community Showcase References: Enclosures: Supporting Documentation; Legislation BACKGROUND: It is recommended that the Board of Commissioners of the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Agency ("CRA") approve and adopt the attached Resolution authorizing a grant, in an amount not to exceed $25,000, to underwrite costs associated with the "2010 American Black Film Festival Community Showcase," to be held within the Redevelopment Area from June 25, 2010 through June 27, 2010. Through the CRA's "Shop, Dine, and Explore" marketing campaign, and the 2009 American Black Film Festival Community Showcase, the CRA promoted businesses, cultural facilities, and restaurants within the Redevelopment Area. The 2010 American Black Film Festival Community Showcase will continue to promote the Redevelopment Area with three days of events to promote the film and production industries during the 14th Annual American Black Film Festival, from June 25, 2010 through June 27, 2010. JUSTIFICATION: Section 2, Goal 5/Principle 6, at pages 11 and 15, of the 2009 Southeast Overtown/Park West Redevelopment Plan, lists "[p]romotion & marketing of the community;" and that "[I]ocal cultural events, institutions, and businesses are to be promoted;" as stated redevelopment goals. This Resolution carries out these goals. FUNDING: $25,000 from SEOPW Tax Increment Fund, "Other Grants and Aids," Account Code No. 10050.920101.883000.0000.00000.
