If this contractual relationship is successful, we will have to expand our growing capacity immediately. The funds requested are intended to be used to increase our capacity to service this first store and others to follow. At this time, we need to increase the number of planted beds, add a secure perimeter to the vegetable garden, add grass to the site to reduce weed growth, add refrigeration capacity to keep harvested greens fresh, and install washing and cleaning facilities for preparing the greens for delivery to the stores. This contract will allow Roots in The City to employ several of the graduates of its Landscape and Horticultural Training Institute and to create permanent jobs for Overtown residents.
