HomeMy WebLinkAboutCRA-R-09-0030 Legislation• • City of Miami Legislation CRA Resolution City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 09-00525 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE SOUTHEAST OVERTOWN/PARK WEST COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY AUTHORIZING A ONE -MONTH EXTENSION OF "FOLKLIFE FRIDAYS," AN OPEN-AIR MARKET HELD ON THE 9TH STREET PEDESTRIAN MALL; AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TO EXECUTE ALL DOCUMENTS NECESSARY FOR SAID PURPOSE. WHEREAS, the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Agency ("CRA") is responsible for carrying out community redevelopment activities and projects within the Redevelopment Area in accordance with its approved Redevelopment Plan; and WHEREAS, Section III.B., at page 13, of the 1982 Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Plan, as amended, lists "Hestor[ing] a sense of community and unify[ing] the area culturally" as a stated redevelopment objective; and WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners, by Resolution No. CRA-R-08-0059, passed and adopted on November 3, 2008, authorized a grant, in an amount not to exceed $50,000, to New Washington Heights Community Development Conference, Inc. for production of "Folklife Fridays," a monthly open-air market to be held for six consecutive months, on the 9th Street Pedestrian Mall; and WHEREAS, on March 12, 2009, Miami -Dade County's Department of Cultural Affairs awarded the CRA a grant, in the amount of $3,753, for "Folklife Fridays;" and WHEREAS, "Folklife Fridays" was anticipated to run for a period of six consecutive months, ending in May 2009; however, program savings and the County's grant would allow for "Folklife Fridays" to operate for an additional month; and WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners wishes to authorize a one -month extension of "Folklife Fridays;" NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE SOUTHEAST OVERTOWN/PARK WEST COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA; Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. A one -month extension of "Folklife Fridays," an open-air market held on the 9th Street Pedestrian Mall, is authorized. Section 3.
