BACKGROUND:
It is recommended that the Board of Commissioners of the Omni Redevelopment District Community
Redevelopment Agency ("CRA") approve and adopt the attached Resolution authorizing additional funds, in an
amount not to exceed $1,950,000, for a total amount not to exceed $3,750,000, to the Miami Woman's Club for
repairs and 40-year recertification of the building at 1737 North Bayshore Drive, Miami, Florida (the "building").
On January 28, 2008, the Miami Woman's Club made a presentation to the Board of Commissioners and
requested a grant, in the amount of $3,750,000, to underwrite costs associated with repairs and 40-year
recertification of its building ("repairs and recertification"). The Board of Commissioners, by Resolution No.
CRA-R-08-0009, passed and adopted on February 25, 2008, authorized a grant, in an amount not to exceed
$1,800,000, to the Miami Woman's Club for repairs and recertification, and directed the Executive Director to
include the remaining balance in the fiscal year 2009 budget, and bring a resolution for the remaining balance to
the Board for approval.
JUSTIFICATION:
The Omni Area Redevelopment Plan, at page 21, Section IV. E., entitled "Historic Preservation Plan," identifies
the Miami Women's Club as a structure of "historic and/or architectural significance." In addition, the building
has received designation as a historic site by the Miami City Commission and the State of Florida, and is listed
in the National Register of Historic Places. This grant provides funds for repairs and 40-year recertification to
preserve the building.
FUNDING: $1,950,000 from Omni Tax Increment Fund, "Other Grants And Aids," Account Code No.
