BACKGROUND:
It is recommended that the Board of Commissioners of the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community
Redevelopment Agency approve and adopt the attached Resolution authorizing a grant, in an amount not to
exceed $25,000, to The Women's Alliance, Inc. dlbla Chapter 2 Clothing for inventory and wardrobe vouchers.
Since February 3, 2006, The Women's Alliance, Inc. has operated Chapter 2 Clothing, a resale clothing store in
the Dorsey House catering to men and women seeking to re-enter the workforce, including graduates of the
CRA's Hospitality Institute.
The Women's Alliance Inc. has received an increased number of requests for wardrobe support from homeless
and low income residents in transition. This grant will allow the store to obtain inventory and to issue more
wardrobe vouchers to those re-entering the workforce. In 2007, the Board of Commissioners, by Resolution No.
CRA-R-07-0054, authorized a similar grant for inventory, fixtures, signage, and wardrobe vouchers. That grant
has been exhausted.
JUSTIFICATION:
Section III.B., at page 13 of the 1982 Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Plan, as
amended, lists "[p]rovid[ing] better employment opportunities and upward job mobility for residents" as a stated
redevelopment objective. This Resolution accomplishes these objectives.
FUNDING: $25,000 from SEOPW Tax Increment Fund, "Construction in Progress," Account Code No.
