Villacort L References: Executive Director Enclosures: Supporting Documentation; Legislation BACKGROUND: It is recommended that the Boards of Commissioners of the Southeast Overtown/Park West and Omni Redevelopment District Community Redevelopment Agencies approve and adopt the attached Joint Resolution authorizing the creation of the Small Business Economic Stimulus and Job Creation Grant Program, in a total amount not to exceed $100,000, to provide grants to small businesses for equipment and fixtures, interior renovations, insurance, security systems, marketing and advertising, and utilities. At its November 24, 2008 CRA Board meeting, the Boards of Commissioners directed the Executive Director to identify, research and establish a small business economic stimulus program to assist businesses in the Redevelopment Areas. This Grant Program was developed to make funds available to small businesses and allow them to better weather the current economic slowdown. The maximum allowable grant under the Program may not exceed $5,000. JUSTIFICATION: Section III, B., at page 13 of the 1982 Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Plan, as amended, lists "[m]aintain[ing] existing business and attract[ing] new business,... [p]rovid[ing] opportunities for [residents] to manage and own businesses,... [and providing b]etter employment opportunities and upward job mobility for residents" as stated redevelopment objectives Section III.D., paragraphs 5-6, at page 10, of the Omni Area Redevelopment Plan, as amended, lists "[p]rovid[ing] opportunities for [residents] to manage and own businesses,... [and p]rovid[ing] employment opportunities and upward job mobility for residents" as stated redevelopment objectives. This Resolution accomplishes these objectives. FUNDING: $50,000 from SEOPW Tax Increment Fund, "Other Grants and Aids," Account Code No. 10050.920101.883000.0000.00000; and $50,000 from Omni Tax Increment Fund, "Other Grants and Aids," Account Code 10040.920101.883000.0000.00000.
