BACKGROUND:
The attached Resolution authorizes a grant, in an amount not exceed $500,000, to the City of Miami to
underwrite costs associated with a Police Camera Pilot Program ("Pilot Program") for the Southeast
Overtown/Park West Redevelopment Area.
On February 25, 2008, the City of Miami Police Department ("Department") presented the Pilot Program to the
Board of Commissioners of the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Agency. During the
presentation, the Department indicated that this Pilot Program had been successfully implemented in the area of
Biscayne Boulevard and East Flagler Street, and proposed it be replicated within the Redevelopment Area.
This Pilot Program will aid law enforcement officers in effectively serving the Redevelopment Area and deterring
crime. As a result, residents and stakeholders will enjoy an enhanced sense of security and improved quality of
life.
JUSTIFICATION:
Section III B. of the Southeast Overtown/Park West Redevelopment Plan, entitled "Redevelopment Objectives,"
at page 13, lists "[ejmphasize crime prevention and maintain security in the area." This Resolution carries out
that objective.
FUNDING: $500,000 from SEOPW Tax Increment Fund, entitled °Other Grant and Aids," Account No.
10050.920101, 883000.0000.00000.
