A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE SOUTHEAST
OVERTOWN/PARK WEST COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY
AUTHORIZING A GRANT TO THE VETERANS EMPLOYMENT TRANSITION
SERVICES, INC. ('VETS"), IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $100,000, FOR
THE CREATION OF A HOSPITALITY INSTITUTE, JOB TRAINING AND JOB
PLACEMENT PILOT PROGRAM IN OVERTOWN; FUNDS TO BE ALLOCATED
FROM GENERAL OPERATING FUND, ACCOUNT CODE NO.
10050.920101.883000.0000.00000, ENTITLED "GRANTS AND AIDS."
WHEREAS, the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Agency ("CRA")
is responsible for carrying out community redevelopment activities and projects in the Southeast
Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Area in accordance with its Redevelopment Plan
("Plan"); and
WHEREAS, the Plan, at Page 13, Section III B, lists as a specific objective providing "better
employment opportunities and upward job mobility for [Overtown) residents"; and
WHEREAS, the Veterans Employment Transition Services, Inc. ("VETS") has developed a
seven -step employment process that recruits, prescreens, provides job readiness and job skills
training, matches skills with employer needs, and places qualified clients on jobs; and
WHEREAS, VETS in partnership with area hotels is seeking a grant to partial fund creation of a
hospitality training institute and job training and job placement pilot program in Overtown; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners of the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community
Redevelopment Agency wishes to authorize a grant to VETS in an amount not to exceed $100,000;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE
SOUTHEAST OVERTOWN/PARK WEST COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCIES OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI FLORIDA
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by
reference and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. A grant to Veteran's Employment Transition Services, Inc., in an amount not to exceed
$100,000, for the creation of a hospitality institute, job training, and job placement pilot program in
Overtown is authorized.
Section 3. Funds are to be allocated from General Operating Fund, Account Code No.
10050.920101.883000.0000.00000, entitled "Grants and Aids."
