THIRD AVENUE LANDSCAPING PROPOSALS
The proposed sites to be Iandscaped are as follows:

The three budget levels represent varying amounts of landscaping and maintenance. The mural will
include both the overpass and the pillars. A brief overview of each budget level is as follows.
Proposal A ($216,000)
Landscape all primary sites with annuals, roses and flowering shrubs
Landscape secondary sites with drought -resistant flowering shrubs
Mulch and water as needed
Remove litter 7 days/week
Proposal B ($169,000)
Landscape all sites with fewer annuals and roses, but more drought -resistant shrubs
Mulch and water 3 times/week
Remove litter 5 days/week
Limited use of sod
Proposal C ($130,500)
Landscape selected sites with annuals and drought -resistant flowering shrubs (no roses)
Mulch and water 2 times/week
Remove litter 5 days/week
No sod

Subject: Third Avenue Landscaping Proposal Detail
Mr. Alexander:
In response to your request for a landscape plan in support of our proposal
submitted October 30 to landscape selected sites along NW Third Avenue,
following is a description of the tasks to be completed in support of
Proposal A.
1. Northbound ramp of 1-95 at NW 8th Street
Clear debris; weed along fence line and around existing trees and shrubs.
Install drought -resistant flowering plants (varieties subject to
availability) such as alamander, lantana, antique roses, Mexican bluebells,
beauganvilla, and plumbago along both sides of the entrance ramp. Install
additional trees such as gumbo limbo. Prepare flower -bed on the exterior
side of the fence at the corner. Install 20 brunfelsia, 10 large
bougainvillea, and 20 hibiscus on the embankment. Add topsoil, mulch and
fertilizer as needed; water as needed. NOTE: FOOT must repair damaged
fence.
2. Vacant lot opposite Mt. Zion Church at 9th Street on east side of 3rd
Avenue
Clear debris and weeds 50 feet back from sidewalk. Add sod. Plant several
large flower beds with available flowering annuals. Plant brunfelsia and
antique roses around the palm trees. Plant 20 hibiscus. Add topsoil, mulch
and fertilizer as needed; water as needed.
3. Southeast and northwest corners of NW 10th Street and 3rd Avenue.
Clear debris and weed. Remove some existing plants. Plant 2 large beds
with available flowering annuals and 2 brunfelsia. Plant ground cover
around the perimeter. Add topsoil, mulch and fertilizer as needed; water as
needed.
4. Under Metrorail overpass between llth Street and llth Terrace
Clear debris, brush and weeds. Install landscaping along Metrorail track
with beds of flowering annuals (varieties as available) at each of the
southeast, southwest, northwest and northeast corners. Severely prune
existing trees. Install flowering annual beds (varieties as available)
around existing trees. Install ground cover behind transit benches and as
needed. Install sod as space allows. Add topsoil, mulch and fertilizer as
needed; water as needed.
5. Douglas Elementary School
Clear debris and weeds. Plant Mexican bluebells along the length of the
site. Add topsoil, mulch and fertilizer as needed; water as needed.
6. Gibson Park
Clear debris and weeds. Prune trees. Install flowering annual beds
(varieties as available) around existing trees in the park. Plant plumbagos
entire length of park facing 3rd Avenue. Add topsoil, mulch and fertilizer
as needed; water as needed.
7. St. John Apartments wall and corner bed, east side of 3rd Avenue between
12th & 13th Streets
Clear debris and weeds. Plant Mexican bluebells along the wall. Install a
bed of flowering annuals and shrubs (varieties as available) at corner. Add
topsoil, mulch and fertilizer as needed; water as needed.
