Villacorta Interim Executive Difector Subject: Ratify payment for re -roof of Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church and daycare center. References: Enclosures: Supporting Documentation; Legislation RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the Board of Commissioners for the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) approve and adopt the attached Resolution ratifying the actions of the Executive Director in making payments in the amount of $104,490 to Design -Build Interamerican, Inc. for emergency roof repairs, necessitated by hurricane Wilma, to the historic Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church and its daycare center. JUSTIFICATION: At its June 26, 2006 board meeting, the CRA's Board of Commissioners directed the Executive Director to expeditiously address concerns regarding hurricane damage to the roof of the Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church and requested that the expenditure be brought back for ratification by the Board. While the Board approved an expenditure of $100,000 final project costs were $104,490. This included re -roofing the daycare center immediately adjacent to the church and providing both structures with a 90Ib mineral surface cap sheet which can serve as a finished roof until the church can obtain funding and historic approval of a tile roofing system. Though the church has received some funds from Citizens Property Insurance Corporation it is anticipated that these funds will be needed to replace the tile roofing system and for repairs to the interior of the church. This work is in accordance with the CRA's approved Redevelopment Plan which provides for preserving historic buildings and lists preservation of the historic Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church at 245 N.W. 8th Street as being of major importance. FUNDING SOURCE: $104,490 from SEOPW Tax Increment Fund, Account Code No. 689001.550108.6.860, entitled "Construction in Progress." JHV/eh
