It is recommended that the Board of Directors for the Omni Redevelopment District Community
Redevelopment Agency (CRA) approve and adopt the attached Resolution authorizing the Executive
Director to provide a Grant to the Miami Woman's Club, located at 1737 North Bayshore Drive, in an
amount not to exceed $100,000 for the purpose of conducting due diligence studies in reference to the on -
site constructed facility to include, but not limited to, 1) an Historic American Building Survey (HABS) —
either new or update of existing HASS, 2) a structural analysis for purpose of 40-year Certification, 3) a site
survey, 4) a property appraisal and title search, 5) an asbestos appraisal, and 6) a baywaiklmarina
feasibility study.
JUSTIFICATION:
The Miami Woman's Club building is a designated National Historic Site as well as being designated by the
State of Florida and the City of Miami. The facility is in serious need of rehabilitative work to make it
structurally sound and restore it to its original splendor. The purpose of this grant is to gather the basic
information required to make sound decisions in going forward with the rehabilitation of this historic
facility. This grant complies with the Redevelopment Objectives of the current Omni Community
Redevelopment Agency (CRA) Redevelopment Plan, Item III, and Section C. 4. — "Encourage preservation
and restoration of historic buildings". In addition, The Miami Woman's Club is specifically identified in
Section IV. E "Historic Preservation Plan" as a structure of historic and /or architectural significance within
the Omni CRA Area and that it is the policy of the City of Miami to promote the preservation of these historic
sites and to encourage that any remodeling respects their historic character. Therefore, it is being
recommended that the Board approve this grant which shall be administered by the Executive Director to
either reimburse The Woman's Club for approved studies or to pay vendors directly for required
studies/reports as determined by the Executive Director.
FUNDING SOURCE: $100,000 from Omni TIF Account No. 686001.590320.6.940 entitled Other Grants
and Aids.
