To: The Omni Community Redevelopment Agency, City of Miami
From: The Miami Woman's Club
Funding Request for Historic American Buildings Survey and Structural Survey
of 1926 Historic Clubhouse
The Miami Woman's Club is a significant part of Miami's past, present and, hopefully,
future. It is on the National Register of Historic Places and on the. City of Miami's list of
historic sites. The building has provided space for the Flagler Memorial Library, the
Federal Government's Work Progress Administration Art Gallery and has hosted a
myriad of civic, charitable and social events over the years. Its membership has included
the female "movers and shakers" of Miami.
Today, the building is at a crossroads. Its major tenant and source of income is moving
out in a year and there is great pressure from real estate developers to sell the property for
high density housing. The building is in need of major rehabilitation.
The Miami Woman's Club requests a grant from the Community Redevelopment Agency
in the amount of $100,000 to fund a Historic American Buildings Survey, "as is"
drawings and a Structural Analysis. A site survey and an asbestos survey would also be
conducted. These surveys would provide a blue print for the work that needs to be done
with a thorough analysis of the costs involved. We would also like to undertake a
feasibility study for a baywalk and marina. This are the essential steps toward insuring
the future of this important part of our collective history.
