It is recommended that the Board of Directors for the Omni Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) approve
the attached resolution authorizing the Executive Director to enter into a Grant Agreement with MART
Foundation, Inc. or their designated agent, in an amount not to exceed $ 50, 000 for the purpose of partial
underwriting a 2005 Art Basel "listed "event entitled, "OmniArt- Miami III"
JUSTIFICATION:
Last year, OmniArt staged one of the most successful Art Basel listed events for the 2004 season. This year, it is
Omni Art intention to dovetail their event with that of the Performing Art Center (PAC) "Lighting the House" event
which will start as the PAC event comes to a close and continue until late hours of the evening into the early
morning taking participants through various warehouses containing art exhibits in the OMNI CRA Area. Attached,
please find the proposal package as presented by Ms Tina Spiro along with an itemized budget which totals
$144,500.00 It is the intent that the Executive Director will release funds on a reimbursement basis or to pay
vendors directly as approved by the Executive Director and that documentation must be presented to the
Executive Director verifying the funding source(s) of the balance of the budget before the CRA funds as
disbursed. The proposed event showcases the Omni Area and is consistent with the major revitalization
strategies of the Omni CRA Master plan as presented in section IV, page 11, "The second major revitalization
strategy of the Omni Area is to create the image of a desirable high quality "uptown" district with an attractive
appearance, a 24-hour activity pattern, and a perception of safety and security." This Art Basel event would help
achieve this objective and further create the desired ambiance of a "hot spot "for desirable activity and future
development.
FUNDING SOURCE: $50,000 from Omni TIF Account No. 686001.590320.6.940 entitled Omni TIF (Other Grants
and Aids).
