THE HOSPITALITY INSTITUTE

Description: The Hospitality Institute, Miami- Dade College- Hospitality Management
Program, is a program designed to connect job opportunities in the local
hospitality industry with Miami's inner city residents through customer service
and job readiness training provided in the heart of the inner city. The Institute
is funded through grants from the CRA-Southeast Overtown/ParkWest, Omni
Community. Redevelopment Agencies of the City of Miami and the WalMart
Foundation.
Established: January 2008 at Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church, 245 N.W. 8th St., Miami, FL.

Program: A four day training program followed by a mini -job fair. Trainers from Miami Dade
College, together with hospitality employers, The Greater Miami Visitor &
Convention Bureau, and motivational speakers provide training on customer service,
job applications and interviews, tips on appearance, keys to successful employment,
and how to access further education.
Employers: Bringing job opportunities and encouragement to participants,
the following employers are making a difference in the community while
addressing their staffing needs:
Doubletree Grand Hotel, Doubletree Coconut Grove, Doubletree Surfcomber, Hilton
Airport, Conrad Hilton, Hilton Bentley, Hyatt Miami, Embassy Suites Miami Airport,
Loews Hotel Miami Beach, Marriott Biscayne Bay, The Continental Group, Jungle
Island, Tecton Hospitality, Holiday Inn, Miami to Go, Mario the Baker, the Ritz -Carlton
Key Biscayne, The Miami Heat, Starbucks Coffee, etc.
Outreach Organizations: The following organizations screen and recommend
participants from their programs to the Hospitality Institute:
Community Partnership for the Homeless, Camillus House, Lotus House,Carrfour
Supportive Housing, Abilities Inc. of Florida, South Florida Work Force, Liberty City
Trust, Miami Behavioral Health Center, Miami Rescue Mission, Better Way of
Miarni,Miami Dade County Veterans Program,Center for Independent Living,etc.
Community Organizations: The following community organizations are
working together in support of the Hospitality Institute:
Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church, CRA — Southeast Overtown/Parkwest,and Omni
Community Redevelopment Agencies of the City of Miarni,Greater Miami Convention
& Visitors Bureau, Visitor Industry Council, Office of the State Attorney, and Suited for
Success
