Priscilla A. Thompson City Clerk (#15047) Miami transit official; to ease Brickell-down BY DI:SERAE DEL CAMP() Once raised, the Brickell Av- enue Bridge is a bad sign for motorists, but Miami's Trans- portation Department is study- ing ways to alleviate the jams that begin at the link between Brickell and downtown. The city is working on an engineering and environmental study of traffic circulation on the north side ofthe Miami River near the Brickell Bridge. The study is probing the flow of traffic from Southeast Sec- ond Avenue to Biscayne Boule- vard and from Southeast Sec- ond to Fourth streets. "We are looking at a four - block area," said Mary Conway, city transportation director. "The study converts these streets from one-way traffic to two way, so that once the bridge is up traffic is still moving on the north side." The two -year -long study is set for completion within six to 12 months, Ms. Conway said. "But completion also depends on the department's feedback on the study, along with feed- back from the Technical Advi- sory Committee." Alongside the engineering study, the city is conducting a project development and envi- ronment study of traffic effi- ciency as a solution to the prob- lem and how to improve bridge - caused traffic jams. The study allows for public input and makes state and fed- eral funds available to the city for construction costs for the project, Ms. Conway said.
