Overtown Youth Center receives $500,000 grant
Overtown Youth Center,
Inc. (OYC), a non-profit
organization dedicated to
empowering students by
providing education and
recreation services to chil-
dren in the Overtown
area, recently received a
$500,000 grant from The
Children's Trust to fund
the Out -of -School
Program during the 2005-
2006 academic year. The
Trust is a dedicated
source of revenue estab-
lished by voter referen-
dum to improve the lives
of children and families in
Miami -Dade County.
"Without the continued
support and commitment
from the Children's Trust,
there would be many fam-
ilies in Overtown whose
children would not be able
to experience a quality
after -school and summer
program," states Carla
Penn, Executive Director
of the Overtown Youth
Center.
OYC's Out -of -School
Program begins today
and will service approxi-
mately 225 inner city
youths in second through

CIVILIAN INVESTIGATIVE PANEL
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that effective
August, 2005 Regular Meetings of the City of
Miami Civilian Investigative Panel (CIP) will be
held on the Third Tuesday of each month, at
5:00 P.M, Miami City Hall, Commission
Chambers, 3500 Pan American Drive, Miami,
Florida. CIP meetings are open to the public
and broadcasted live on City of Miami
Television Channel 9.
The CIP provides independent civilian oversight
of the Miami Police Department and is charged
with the responsibility of investigating allega-
tions of police misconduct and making recom-
mendations to the Miami Police Department
regarding police policies and procedures.
Persons wishing to file complaints against a
City of Miami Police officer may do so by con-
tacting the CIP at 305-579-2444.
