The meeting was called to order by Chair Hardemon at 6:17 p.m., and was adjourned at 6:21 p. m. ALSO PRESENT: Clarence E. Woods, Executive Director, CRA William Bloom, Special Counsel, CRA Renee A. Jadusingh, Staff Counsel, CRA Barnaby L. Min, Deputy General Counsel Todd B. Hannon, Clerk of the Board Chair Hardemon: Good evening, everyone. I'd like to call this May 26, 2015 Southeast Overtown/Park West CRA (Community Redevelopment Agency) agenda or meeting into order. As you can see, we have two of us Commissioners here. My dear friend, Commissioner Suarez made it in, and I want to just thank you, first of all, for being here. It seems that -- Board Member Suarez: It's important to be here. Chair Hardemon: Absolutely. Board Member Suarez: For me, it is. Chair Hardemon: The business of the Southeast Overtown/Park West CRA is of dear importance to all of us who are here in this room to witness it, and also who are a part of this dais. And I know that all of our Commissioners can't always make it, you know, it's difficult to be here. But I just want to thank you publicly for making it and showing the people that you do care about what's on this agenda. Typically, you know that we don't start our meetings late. We're here at 5, and as soon as there's a quorum, we get started, and it's usually no later than 15 minutes that passes. Today, there was a anomaly, so here we are. We called the meeting to order. We're not going to conduct any business, because, by law, we cannot. And so we're going to call another Southeast Overtown/Park West CRA meeting on June 11, at noon, at 3500 Pan American Drive, which is City Hall, Miami City Hall. Board Member Suarez: Hopefully, we'll have quorum then. Vice Chair Hardemon: Right. I would think so. That's the day that we have a City Hall -- a City Commission meeting, so we should have quorum there, and everyone who is on the agenda for this item -- for this meeting will be on the agenda for the next meeting. There will not be any changes, any additional items. So we ask that you all come and you participate within that meeting so we can conduct the business of the CRA. What I don't want is another month to pass without some action being done. We have some very important items on the agenda that are about rehabilitating four properties; giving people jobs; continuing business services within the Overtown area, and these are all things that we've been charged with and we've been making sure happen. Do you have anything you want to say? Commissioner Suarez: No. I just -- I want to apologize on behalf of our Board to all of those people who came out tonight. I hope that -- I know I can speak for the Chairman when I say that the CRA and its mission are very near and dear to our heart. It's been a challenge since I was elected Commissioner, and I've spoken about that challenge many, many times, and I've also spoken about the fact that I'm very buoyed by our new Chairman, and I'm hopeful that the CRA City of Miami Page 2 Printed on 6/18/2015 SEOPW Community Redevelopment Agency Meeting Minutes May 26, 2015 RESOLUTIONS 1. 15-00334 2. 15-00629 can -- and it appears to be going in the right direction. And, you know, for me, you know, when we don't have a quorum like this, I'm afraid that it gives the impression that, as Commissioners, we're not interested. And that's not the case, you know; we really are. We understand the challenges that are before us, which are not easy. We understand the resources that we have to meet those challenges, which, you know, grow as a result of some of the decisions that we've made. And we look forward to working with the community, with all of you who are here and those who are not, whether you are friend or foe, in the sense of whether you're a critic of what we do, or whether you think we're doing a great job, to help steer us in the right direction as we move forward. I want to thank you, Mr. Chair. I think it was important for us to begin the meeting, at least, and express this to the community, and, you know, we'll continue to be here fighting the good fight, if you will. Chair Hardemon: And I would like to tell everyone that we -- I tried to think through as many type of situations as I could to make the agenda at least happen, but 1 couldn't find any way that would fit within the rules of Florida Statutes. So being a lawyer, I want to make sure I do the right thing, because I don't want to be challenged. But there was nothing I could do in this one, and so, typically, we can find our way out of this paper bag, but today just was not one of those days. But thank you.
