Dear Clarence:
It has been a pleasure working with you and your team over the past 10 months and I'd
like to thank you and the SEOPW Community Redevelopment Agency's (CRA) for your
investment in and partnership with Film Life, Inc, and The Miami Film Life Center
(MFLC). Your commitment to improving the conditions of the residents of Overtown and
the surrounding communities is a shining example of public and private partnerships
working together to effect change. This letter has been prepared by Film Life, Inc. to
formally announce our intention to apply for a grant renewal for the Calendar year 2014.
The Mission of the MFLC is to enhance awareness and accessibility of film and
filmmaking to the residents of Overtown and its surrounding communities. With a focus
on education, professional development, training programs and networking opportunities,
the MFLC seeks to stimulate interest and support for community based new and
emerging filmmakers. For the past 10 months the MFLC has hosted a variety of activities
and events that have served as a gateway for independent filmmakers looking to share
their creative visions with a larger audience.
Below and attached are some highlights and photographs of MFLC activities over the
past 10 months:
+ Miami Film Life Center Ground Breaking Ceremony and Press Conference- In June,
during the 17th Annual American Black Film Festival, community leaders, residents,
members of the media and celebrities attended the "ground breaking" ceremony and
press conference for the MFLC. Stars from the HBO series True Blood (Nelson Ellis) and
Veep (Sufe Bradshaw) as well as ABFF Ambassador Omari Hardwick attended the event.
In addition to the groundbreaking, local Miami filmmakers as well as filmmakers with
films In competition took a tour of locations in Miami that are suitable for film and video
shoots.

• Miami Youth Voices- in this seven week summer program, students learned the artistic
and creative process of filmmaking. Ten students enrolled in the camp which met three
days during the week from noon until 4prn for classroom instruction as well as hands on
application In the basics of filmmaking. The students under the guidance of Industry
professionals took a field trip to a production studio, as well as completed a short film
on their experience in the camp.
• MFCL Membership Drive and Mixer-Approximately75 people attended a mixer to
introduce the MFLC to the community and drive membership. To date the center has
over 500 people who have signed up to receive a variety of benefits Including free
access to classes and screening produced by the Center.
• Miami Film Life Center Screening Series: Better Mus Come- Approximately 25 people
attended the screening of the 2012 Best Film Winner at the American Black Film
Festival, getter Mus Come. The screening was held at Camillus House and was followed
by a Q&A with the filmmakers, Storm Saulter and Sheldon Sheperd who were in
attendance.
• Miami Film Life Center Industry Micro Workshop: Legal 101 Entertainment Contracts-40
people attended the industry workshop on negotiating and drafting contracts which was
held at the Chapman House. Attorney Nayanza Shaw lead the discussion on how
filmmakers can work with talent to negotiate and draft contracts as well as with the
unions.
• Miami Film Life Center Screening Series: The Last Fall- held at the Camillus House
screening room 65 people attended the screening of the 2012 ABFF Best Screenplay
winning film, The Last Fall. Director Matthew Cherry was in attendance and held a Q&A
with attendees following the film.,
• Miami Film Life Center Master Class: Producing 101-160 people have signed up to
attend the Master Class led by producerfdirector, Roger Bobb. The class will be held at
the Camillus House on Saturday, October 19, 2013
• Miami Flinn Life Center Industry Micro Workshop: How to Pull a Permit- event
production manager for the Miami Beach Film Commission will be conducting a
workshop on October 296 on how to work with the various municipalities to obtain
permits,
The purpose of applying for the grant is to allow the MFLC to continue to bring these and
other programs to the community thereby improving the lives of the citizens of the
SEOPW area. Your generous support will allow us to accomplish this goal. We look

1, Film Life, Inc. ("Consultant") shall utilize its extensive professional relationships and resource
networks developed over sixteen (16) years as well as Consultant's marketing venue, that is the
internationally renowned American Black Film Festival, to assist the CRA In Its redevelopment
goal of fostering a film Industry Incubator and resource center, Miami Film Life Center
("Center"),that will serve to promote film industry investment and career opportunities
benefltting the residents and business stakeholders of the Southeast Overtown/Park West
Community Redevelopment Area,
2 Consultant shall facilitate the recruitment, hiring and training of employees of the Miami Film
Life Center ("Center")
3. Consultant shall develop a list of film Industry related resource documents and databases to be
made available at the Center.
4. Consultant shall develop an educational program curriculum to be offered through the Center
providing training and networking opportunities for Center members. Consultants shall
encourage its affiliated partners, such as HBO,NBC Universal, CNN, Nickelodeon, Writers Guild,
SAGIndIe, etc., to work with the Center to make materials and resources available to Center
members.
5, Consultant shall assist in identifying film related opportunities for members.
6. Consultant shall develop and assist in implementing a membership drive marketing plan to
establish a membership database at the Center.
7, Consultant shall provide professional guidance to those registered members of the Center
interested In film distribution marketing and contract negotiations.
8. Consultant shall plan, coordinate and implement up to three film screening networking events
during the Project Term, which may be subject to the receipt of sponsorship funds to underwrite
associated film screening production costs.
9. Consultant shall plan, coordinate, and implement a minimum of three master class workshops
during the Project Term. Master Class workshops shall be taught by reputable industry
professionals with significant experience in the subject matter class.
10. Subject to the availability of additional funds for direct costs, Consultant shall assist the CRA and
Its business development marketing partners, (1.e,, Greater Miami Convention and Visitors
Bureau (GMCVB), Downtown Development Authority, Omni Community Redevelopment
Agency, etc.) in promoting the Center and Miami film opportunities at reputable national
industry related events and through Consultant's affiliated network of industry professionals,
11. Consultant shall work with Miami's local film offices (City of Miami Film Office, Miami -Dade
County Film Office) to attract independent film production entitles to the City of Miami to
participate in the CRA's Film Training Institute providing on-the-job training opportunities on
active production sets. Consultant shall further intervene in the negotiations and closing of CRA
Film Training Institute related agreements and to serve as a resource to the CRA.
