The Grinder is being purchased for use at the Virginia Key Composting Facility. It is essential to the
efficient and effective operations of the composting facility. In an effort to reduce our tipping fees and
realize significant cost savings, we have diverted "clean yard trash", which is excluded from our inter -
local agreement with the County, to Virginia Key for processing. In addition, we have entered into inter -
local agreements with neighboring municipalities allowing us to accept their "clean yard trash",
generating revenue at $40.00 per ton. Due to the increase in volume of trash being diverted to the
Virginia Key Composting Facility and the depreciation of the current equipment, the breaking down of
equipment has become more frequent. The failure of current equipment will cause loss of
revenue/savings and potentially cause non-compliance with the Department of Environmental Resources
Management, which issues the permit required to operate the facility.
