HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-11-0117City of Miami Legislation Resolution: R-11-0117 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 11-00173 Final Action Date: 3/24/2011 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), ESTABLISHING A NEW SPECIAL REVENUE PROJECT ENTITLED: "SUMMER FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN 2011" AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS FOR THE OPERATION OF SAME, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $500,000, CONSISTING OF A REIMBURSEMENT GRANT FROM THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE ("USDA") THROUGH THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE AGREEMENT, AND ALL NECESSARY DOCUMENTS TO IMPLEMENT THE ACCEPTANCE OF SAID GRANT, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, FOR THE PROVISION OF LUNCHES AND SNACKS TO THE PARTICIPANTS OF THE CITY OF MIAMI'S 2010 SUMMER FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM, OPERATED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION. WHEREAS, the City of Miami's ("City") Department of Parks and Recreation sponsors a Summer Food Service Program for children which provides nutritional meals in conjunction with its comprehensive recreational program ("Project"); and WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Education, Food and Nutrition Management Division ("DOE"), with projected funds from the United States Department of Agriculture ("USDA"), in the estimated amount not to exceed $500,000, provides grants for summer food service programs from June, 2011 through August, 2011, for children up to the age of 18; and WHEREAS, the City has applied for a DOE grant this year for the Project and, if awarded, the DOE reimbursement grant shall be in an amount not to exceed $500,000, based on year 2011 figures at the rate of $3.29 per lunch and $.78 per snack, and includes the respective reimbursement rates for operation and administrative costs; and WHEREAS, through the Project, the City will be able to serve approximately 136,570 lunches and 136,570 supplements beginning June, 2011 and ending August, 2011; and WHEREAS, an estimated amount not to exceed $500,000 will be received from the State of Florida for carrying out said program; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. S. Department of Agriculture through the Florida Department of Education. $500,000 Summer Food Service Program for Children 2011 $500,000 Section 3. This appropriation is contingent upon the approval of the City's application for said grant by the DOE. Section 4. The City Manager is authorized{1} to execute the Agreement, and all necessary documents to implement the acceptance of said grant, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney. Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{2} Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
