Purpose of Item:
It is respectfully recommended that City Commission adopt the attached Resolution authorizing the City
Manager to submit an application for grant funding to the Florida Inland Navigation District ("FIND")
to fund the Kennedy Park shoreline stabilization and restoration. The estimated cost of the Project is
$150,000 and the City will apply for funding in the amount of $75,000 or fifty (50%) with the city
contributing $75,000 or (50%) of the total project costs. These match funds are identified from the
Kennedy Park shoreline stabilization and restoration under Capital Improvement Project B-30541C.
Background Information:
Shoreline restoration is necessary to return the tidal flow to the mangroves along the shoreline of
Kennedy Park in Coconut Grove. Shoreline stabilization will allow greater public access to the water
from the upland and bring a tremendous public benefit to a highly used park located on Biscayne Bay
and the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. The Florida Inland Navigation District ("FIND") has grant
funds available for a portion of said project and the city wishes to apply for said funds. The item
includes language by Rule 66B-2, Florida Administrative Code, for grant submittal to the Waterways
Assistance Program.
