A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S),
URGING GOVERNOR RICK SCOTTAND THE MEMBERS OF THE FLORIDA
LEGISLATURE TO SUPPORT FUNDING OF THE LOCAL SERVICES PROGRAM
DURING THE 2011 LEGISLATIVE SESSION; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO
TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE OFFICIALS DESIGNATED
HEREIN.
WHEREAS, the Local Services Program that funds elderly service programs throughout the State
of Florida, is not in Governor Scott's proposed budget; and
WHEREAS, these programs provide vital services to the elderly citizens such as home care,
meals and other supportive assistance; and
WHEREAS, a total of over $5 million in funding cuts to Miami -Dade will impact thousands of
residents:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble of this Resolution are adopted by
reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The Miami City Commission urges Governor Rick Scott and the members of the Florida
Legislature to support funding of the Local Services Program during the 2011 legislative session.
Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Governor Rick Scott
and the members of the Florida Legislature.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of
the Mayor.{1}

{1} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar
days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become
effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
