A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION WAIVING, PURSUANT TO
SECTION 54-341(E), THE RESTRICTIONS CONTAINED IN SECTIONS 54-341(C)
(1),(2), AND (3) OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS
AMENDED, MORE PARTICULARLY: 1. THE RESTRICTION THAT NO MORE
THAN TWO EVENTS PER MONTH SHALL OCCUR, 2. THE RESTRICTION THAT
ONLY ONE EVENT OF THE TWO EVENTS MAY INVOLVE STREET CLOSURES,
AND 3. THE RESTRICTION ON TWO EVENTS TAKING PLACE ON SUCCESSIVE
WEEKENDS, FOR EVENTS OCCURRING IN THE "COCONUT GROVE SPECIAL
EVENTS DISTRICT", TO ALLOW FOR THE CARNAVAL DE BARANQUILLA TO
TAKE PLACE ON MARCH 12, 2011.
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 54.341(c)(1) of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, ("City
Code") provides, in part, that only two (2) events per month shall occur within the Coconut Grove
Special Events District; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 54.341(c)(2) of the City Code, only one (1) of two (2) events in a
given month may involve street closures within the Coconut Grove Special Events District; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 54.341(c)(3) of the City Code, two (2) events shall not take place
on successive weekends within the Coconut Grove Special Events District; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission pursuant to Section 54.341 (e) has the authority to waive or
modify any of the above restrictions; and
WHEREAS, members in the community have expressed an interest in hosting the Carnaval de
Baranquilla within the Coconut Grove Special Events District on March 12, 2011;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble of this Resolution are adopted by
reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. Pursuant to Section 54-341(e) of the City Code, the restrictions contained in Section
54-341(c)(1),(2), and (3) of the City Code, most particularly: 1. the restriction on two (2) events per
month, 2. the restriction that only one (1) event of the two (2) events may involve street closures, and
3. the restriction regarding two (2) events taking place on successive weekends for events occurring in
the Coconut Grove Special Events District, are hereby waived, to allow for the Carnaval De
Baranquilla to take place on March 12, 2011.
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of
the Mayor.{1}

{1} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days
from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become
effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
