Purpose of Item:
AUTHORIZING THE TRANSFER OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT FUNDS, IN
THE AMOUNT OF $50,000 FROM THE CITY OF MIAMI DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY
DEVELOPMENT DISTRICT 2 ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT RESERVE ACCOUNT; ALLOCATING
SAID FUNDS TO BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS OF MIAMI-DADE, INC., FOR PUBLIC FACILITIES AND
IMPROVEMENT ACTIVITIES; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE
AGREEMENT(S), IN SUBSTANTIALLY THE ATTACHED FORM(S), WITH SAID AGENCY, FOR
SAID PURPOSE(S).

Background Information:
The Boys and Girls Club of Miami -Dade, Inc. is a charitable organization founded in 1940, which is
devoted to providing educational, recreational and other worthwhile activities for local youth.
The Hank Kline Club provides year-round after school sports and summer programs to over 1,500
youth from Miami and the neighboring communities.
On December 10, 2009, the City of Miami Commission adopted Resolution R-09-0540 allocating
$150,000 to Boys and Girls Clubs of Miami -Dade, Inc. for public facilities and improvement activities
to the Hank Kline Club located at 2805 Southwest 32nd Avenue, Miami.
The improvements to the facility include the installation of a new fence; sidewalks, benches, lighting
and landscaping along US 1 between 31st and 32nd Avenue.
Boys and Girls Clubs of Miami -Dade, Inc. would like to continue to replace the fencing along the
perimeter of the Hank Kline Club and will match funding provided by the City for this purpose.
The Administration recommends the transfer of CDBG funds in the amount of $50,000, from the City
of Miami Department of Community Development District 2 Economic Development Reserve
Account, to the Boys and Girls Club of Miami -Dade, Inc., for public facilities and improvement
activities.
