Subject: A resolution allocating funding up to $344,550 from EPA Jobs Training Grant to the
University of South Florida OSHA Training Institute Education Center to provide job training services,
certifications, and job placement assistance for the City of Miami Brownfield Job Training Program.
Purpose of Item:
A resolution authorizing the City Manager to allocate funding up to $344,550 to establish a
subrecipient grant agreement with the University of South Florida's OSHA Training Institute (USF-
OTIEC) Education Center for job training services within the City of Miami Brownfield Job Training
Program. The allocated funding will be expended from the American Recovery and Rienvestment
Act - U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Brownfield Job Training Grant.
Background Information:
In 2009, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency awarded the City of Miami with a $500,000
"EPA Brownfields Job Training Grant" (R: 09- 0519; adopted December 10, 2009). The City of
Miami will continue to use grant funding to provide skills training to prepare City residents for
employment within environmental and green industry professions. For the remainder of the grant
period of perfomance (thru 2012), the Office of Grants Administration is proposing to enter a
subrecipient agreement with the USF-OTIEC, in which the institution will provide training in multiple
certification courses, provide continuing education credits, and implement job placement assistance.
