HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislation� . .~ ��^�nx "�� Miami �*�� ��n n�o������ Legislation a~��' Uon Resolution City Hall 35OOPan American Drive Miami, FL33133 wmw.miomigov.com File Number: 10-01448 Final Action Date: ARESOLUTION C}FTHE K0IAM|CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ALLOW CITY [>FM|AM|EMPLOYEES AMOMENT OF REFELECT|C}N |NOBSERVATION OFTHE MA|T|AN DAY C]FMOURNING C>N JAy4UARY12.3D11AND EVERY YEAR SUBSEQUENT THERETO, WHEREAS, onJanuary 12.2O1O.sdapproximately 4:53p.rn. the country ofHaiti was devastated by an earthquake which naau|Uad in not only the loss of buildings but also hundreds of thousand lives; and WHEREAS, the earthquake in Haiti not only affected the lives of those living in Haiti but crossed the international waters and had a impact on residents of this city, state and country; and V\OHEFlE/\8, the conditions in HmUj have not droadco|k/ improved and the effects of the earthquake are long-|os1ing; and WHEREAS, many residents were personally impacted bvthe earthquake and lost family members and friends; and WHEREAS, the country of Haiti and many others are still suffering trying to recover from this catastrophe; and WHEREAS, many Haitian noUveo, descendents and those of other nobonoUb/, wish to observe a Day of Mourning on January 12, 2011, in remembrance of the lives lost during the earthquake and aftermath; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission recognize the importance ofemployees being given an opportunity to mourn and grieve; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated osif fully set forth )nthis Section. Section2. The City Manager inauthorized {1\to allow City ofMiami employees amoment of refelection in observation of the Haitian Day of Mourning on January 12, 2011 and every year subsequent thereto.
