A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING A GRANT TO
THE HISTORICAL MUSEUM OF SOUTHERN FLORIDA FOR THE MIAMI CIRCLE
RESTORATION PROJECT, IN THE AMOUNT OF $50,000, AS MATCHING FUNDS
TO A FLORIDA INLAND NAVIGATION DISTRICT GRANT; ALLOCATING FUNDS
FROM PROJECT NO. B-30365A, ACCOUNT NO. 35000.401000.670;
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXCECUTE A GRANT AGREEMENT
AND ALL NECESSARY DOCUMENTS FOR SAID PURPOSE.
WHEREAS, the Tequesta Indians were early inhabitants of the City of Miami ("City") along the
Biscayne Bay; and
WHEREAS, archaeological artifacts primarily from 750 B.C. to A.D. 550, believed to be
remnants from a Tequesta Indian Village were discovered at a site where the mouth of the Miami River
meets Biscayne Bay, known as the Miami Circle; and
WHEREAS, the State of Florida purchased the Miami Circle site to preserve the ancient
Tequesta Indian Village and create public access to the site by developing a park near the site; and
WHEREAS, the Historical Museum of Southern Florida will develop the Miami Circle Park; and
WHEREAS, the Florida Inland Navigation District has committed to $150,000 for the creation of
the Miami Circle Park contingent upon a commitment of matching funds from local agencies; and
WHEREAS, the South Florida Water Management District and the Miami Downtown
Development Authority have contributed matching funds towards the completion of the Miami Circle
Park; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the residents of the City for the City to provide a grant to
the Historical Museum of Southern Florida in the amount of $50,000 to facilitate the restoration and
site improvements for the Miami Circle Park, including completion of the riverwalk and park furniture;

Section 1. The recitals and findings, contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted
by reference and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The Miami City Commission authorizes a grant to the Historical Museum of
SoutherJFIorida, in the amount of $50,000, for restoration acid Cite improvements to the Miami Circle

Section 3. The City Manager is authorized{1} to a execute a Grant Agreement and all
necessary documents for said purpose.

{1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be
imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City
Charter and Code provisions.
{2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar
days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall
become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission
