HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutionCity of Miami Legislation Resolution City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 10-00870a Final Action Date: 7/29/2010 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION DIRECTING THE CITY ATTORNEY TO PREPARE AN AMENDMENT TO THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF MIAMI FOR CONSIDERATION AT AN ELECTION TO BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 2, 2010, PROPOSING, UPON THE APPROVAL OF THE ELECTORATE, THE CONVERSION OF THE CIVIL SERVICE SECTION TO AN ORDINANCE TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE CITY OF MIAMI. WHEREAS, the Charter of the City of Miami, Florida, contains provisions with antiquated language that do not allow the City of Miami ("City") to meet its needs or operate efficiently; and WHEREAS, an amendment is needed to convert the section to the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as amended ("City Code") to accurately reflect the City's operational needs, to allow the City to operate in a more cost-effective manner and better allow the City to perform its duties; and WHEREAS, conversion of Section 36 of the Miami Charter entitled "Civil Service" to an ordinance is necessary to meet the needs of the City; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The City Attorney is directed to prepare and bring back to the City Commission, in accordance with the requirements set forth in Section 2-112 of the City Code, an amendment to the City Charter for consideration at an election to be held on November 2, 2010, proposing upon the approval of the electorate, the conversion of the Civil Service section to an ordinance. Section 2. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{1} APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: JULIE O.
