HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutionCity of Miami Resolution Legislation City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 15877 Final Action Date: 4/25/2024 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION CODESIGNATING SOUTHEAST 12TH STREET FROM BRICKELL AVENUE TO BRICKELL BAY DRIVE AS "BAD BOYS BOULEVARD" IN HONOR OF THE "BAD BOYS" MOVIE FRANCHISE, PURSUANT TO SECTION 54-137 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS AMENDED; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE HEREIN DESIGNATED OFFICES. SPONSOR(S): Mayor Francis X. Suarez WHEREAS, Southeast 12th Street is a significant thoroughfare in the City of Miami ("City"), connecting Brickell Avenue to Brickell Bay Drive; and WHEREAS, the "Bad Boys" movie franchise, featuring actors Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, has become a cultural icon, synonymous with the City, and has contributed significantly to the City's identity and global reputation; and WHEREAS, the codesignation of Southeast 12th Street honors the franchise's impact on the City, not only as a cornerstone in action cinema, but also as a showcase of Miami to a worldwide audience over three decades; and WHEREAS, the City Commission acknowledges the importance of the "Bad Boys" movie franchise to Miami's cultural heritage and wishes to honor its legacy through this codesignation; and WHEREAS, the City Commission desires to codesignate Southeast 12th Street from Brickell Avenue to Brickell Bay Drive as "Bad Boys Boulevard" in accordance with Section 54- 137 of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Commission hereby codesignates Southeast 12th Street from Brickell Avenue to Brickell Bay Drive as "Bad Boys Boulevard," in honor of the Bad Boys Movie Franchise. Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the Departments of Police, Fire -Rescue, and Solid Waste; the Miami -Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works; the United States Postal Service; and, if a State of Florida road, to the Florida Department of Transportation, District Six, for sign installation within the newly designated roadways.
