Since at least 1984, the Department of Fire -Rescue has been utilizing equipment provided by Physio- Control Inc., A Division of Medtronic (formerly known as Medtronic Physio-Control, Corporation) and this maintenance as requested herein has been previously approved as a sole source pursuant to Resolutions 84-656, 88-801, 98-566, 02-980, 04-0059 and 05-0528. Usage and extensive field tests of comparable equipment on the market have conclusively proven the superior function and reliability of Physio-Control, Inc., A Division of Medtronic products. To date, the Department of Fire -Rescue has approximately eighty- four (84) Lifepak defibrillator/monitors and related equipment that are currently used throughout the department in its day-to-day operations. The maintenance of this Cardiac Life equipment is critical as it is used in the treatment of life threatening situations and must be maintained at all times and in proper working condition. In the course of daily use, mechanical and electrical failures are encountered and the continuance of a maintenance and performance assurance program is vital. Physio-Control, Inc., A Division of Medtronic, is the sole source provider and distributor of replacement parts and supplies for the Lifepak monitors/defibrillators/pacemakers used by the City. The use of supplies, accessories, or parts from sources other than Physio-Control, Inc., A Division of Medtronic, may void any product warranty on these products. Physio-Control, Inc., A Division of Medtronic, also provides all replacement parts on its equipment, and the use of parts from Physio- Control, Inc., A Division of Medtronic, ensures that parts are interchangeable from one of its products to another. Since Physio-Control, Inc., A Division of Medtronic, manufactures all of its cardiac monitoring and defibrillation equipment, the Chief Procurement Officer has deemed the acquisition of maintenance services by Physio-Control Inc., A Division of Medtronic, as a sole source; therefore, it is recommended at this time that the City Commission ratify the Manager's finding of sole source and authorize the acquisition of these services.
