A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S),
ACCEPTING FUNDS, IN THE AMOUNT OF $249,495, CONSISTING OF A GRANT
AWARD FROM THE HOME DEPOT FOUNDATION PASSED THROUGH THE
DADE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ADVANCING THE
ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVES OF THE CITY OF MIAMI'S GREEN MIAMI
CAMPAIGN, BY PLANTING ONE THOUSAND (1,000) TREES IN URBAN AREAS
WITHIN THE CITY OF MIAMI, TARGETING NEIGHBORHOODS WITH THE
LOWEST TREE CANOPY; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE
AN AGREEMENT, IN SUBSTANTIALLY THE ATTACHED FORM, AND ANY
OTHER NECESSARY DOCUMENTS TO IMPLEMENT ACCEPTANCE OF SAID
GRANT; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ALLOCATE SAID
FUNDS TO THE GREENSPACE MANAGEMENT FUND CREATED PURSUANT
TO ORDINANCE NO. 13002, ADOPTED JUNE 12, 2008; AUTHORIZING THE
APPROPRIATION OF SAID FUNDS FOR PLANTING TREES IN URBAN AREAS.
WHEREAS, Greenspaces contribute to improved air quality, land conservation, wildlife
preservation, water quality and the overall quality of life in the City of Miami ("City"); and
WHEREAS, Greenspaces help to manage stormwater, allow for the natural replenishment of
groundwater aquifers, provide wildlife habitat, improve air quality and the carbon sequestration
capabilities of plants and trees, and provide the natural amenities that make the City a pleasure to live
in; and
WHEREAS, Greenspaces can dramatically reduce the investment costs in infrastructure for
drinking and wastewater; and
WHEREAS, Greenspaces can reduce energy costs for the City's citizens and businesses and
reduce rising temperatures in urban areas caused by increased paving minimal tree coverage; and
WHEREAS, using Greenspaces to Zink parks, schools, shopping centers, and work sites will
improve community health, decrease driving and its associated carbon emissions and increase
livability by encouraging walking or biking within communities; and
WHEREAS, the City, as determined in the 2008 American Forests Urban Ecosystem Analysis
study, has a twenty-one percent (21%) tree canopy but should, ideally, have a thirty percent (30%)
tree canopy; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission has passed a resolution establishing a new special revenue
fund entitled "Greenspace Management Fund" for the maintenance and management of all
Greenspace within the City which will consist of funds appropriated from the City, and contributions
from public, private, local, state and federal sources; and

WHEREAS, the Home Depot Foundation has awarded the City a grant of $250,000 ($249,495
after pass through fees from Dade Community Foundation), "to be used to advance the environmental
initiative of the Green Miami Campaign by planting one thousand (1,000) trees in urban areas within
the City, targeting neighborhoods with the lowest tree canopy" passed through the Dade Community
Foundation;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by
reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. Funds, in the amount of $249,495, consisting of a grant award from the Home Depot
Foundation passed through the Dade Community Foundation, for the purpose of advancing the
environmental initiatives of the City's Green Miami campaign, by planting one thousand (1,000) trees
in urban areas within the City, targeting neighborhoods with the lowest canopy, is accepted.
Section 3. The City Manager is authorized{1} to execute an Agreement, in substantially the
attached form, and any other necessary documents to implement the acceptance of said grant award.
Section 4. The City Manager is further authorized{1} to allocate said funds to the Greenspace
Management Fund created pursuant to Ordinance No. 13002, adopted June 12, 2008.
Section 5. The appropriation of said funds for the planting of trees in urban areas, is authorized.
Section 6. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of
the Mayor.{2}

Footnotes:
(1)The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed
by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code
provisions.
{2) If the mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days
from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective
immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
